Counselling

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a process where, by talking to a professional in a safe and confidential space about how they are feeling, a person can work out the things that cause them distress. Through the counselling process and with the support of their counsellor a person can gain an insight and awareness into their problems.

Counselling offers the opportunity for a person to explore the resources available to them therefore enabling improvement in their lives. By exploring different ways of looking at their life experiences and current situation, a person can gain the confidence needed to make changes which can make a big difference in their lives.

How can Counselling help?

Through counselling and with the support of their counsellor a person can examine the behaviours, thoughts, attitudes, and feelings that may be causing difficulties in their life. A person can learn effective ways to deal with problems by building upon their own personal strengths. A counsellor will encourage personal growth and development.

Counselling can help:

  • identify goals and potential solutions to problems that cause emotional turmoil
  • improve communication and coping skills
  • strengthen self-esteem
  • promote behaviour change
